Matters handled by attorney-at-law Vadim V. Andreev
Fish products damaged during sea carriage
After frozen fish was carried from Severo-Kurilsk to Vladivostok, water was found in the hold and some cargo was wet and thawed. The charterer claimed RUB 28.1 million. Sensors did not show a temperature breach immediately after the brief water ingress, while expert evidence and storage records indicated that the cargo thawed after discharge. The causal link to the carrier was not proved, and the claim was dismissed.
Shortage dispute in international carriage of soybeans
A dispute arose after draft-survey figures for more than 5,000 tonnes of soybeans shipped from Vladivostok to Nantong differed from shore scales by about 365 tonnes. The receiver reported a shortage and the vessel was detained; the shipowner claimed RUB 22.69 million from the charterer for detention, idle time and a cargo insurer's claim. The parties agreed on settlement terms, which resolved the dispute without a judgment on the merits.
Vessel impact damage to a berth
A vessel struck a berth during mooring, and its owner sought more than RUB 13 million for repairs and surveys. The defence challenged the scope and cost of the damage; the court ordered initial, repeat and additional expert reviews. The accepted repair estimate was about RUB 5.3 million, and the appeal court reduced the total award to RUB 6,245,810.50 after applying the policy deductible.
